Ignition Interlock is a device installed in a motor vehicle that prevents the ignition from starting unless the driver blows a breath sample into the device. If the alcohol concentration of the breath sample exceeds 0.05, the motor vehicle engine will not start.
For all Ignition Interlock Devices installed on or after July 1, 2013 the new mandated fail point for the ignition interlock device has been lowered from 0.05 to 0.025. However, the court may choose a lower threshold for the device.
Requirements:
Section 316.193, Florida Statues, requires ignition interlock device to be installed on the vehicles of certain persons convicted of DUI.
The ignition interlock program affects those arrested and convicted of DUI after July 1, 2002, upon eligibility of reinstatement for a permanent or restricted driver license. The ignition interlock device is also required when a driver convicted of DUI applies for a restricted license for work or business purposes (s. 322.271, F.S).

Attention Customers:
Things you may not know about the Ignition Interlock Device (IID) that is installed in your vehicle.
DID YOU KNOW:
- The time you are required to have the IID installed does not start until you go to the Driver License Office and reinstate your license.
- Your IID installation time must be continuous.
- You do not receive credit for having the IID installed if your license is suspended, revoked or cancelled.
- Your license can be revoked if you are convicted of driving a vehicle that does not have the IID installed.
- Your license will be cancelled if you do not comply with the IID requirements.
- You are responsible for all the readings on the IID.
- You have additional requirements if you get any IID Violations...
- 1st Violation – must report to the DUI program for a monitoring appointment ($25)
- 2nd Violation:
- Must report to the DUI program for a monitoring appointment.
- Develop a Case Management Plan ($55).
- Report monthly to the program for the duration of your IID time ($45 *includes IID monthly compliance fee).
- 3rd or Subsequent IID Violation:
- Must report to the DUI program for referral to substance abuse treatment ($55-$60) .
- Report to the DUI program for monthly monitoring appointments ($45 *includes IID monthly compliance fee)
- You must complete substance abuse treatment and your IID time may be extended.
